  • In a way it is. You can choose private health care but you can also opt for government subsidized care. If you choose the government plan you pay about 30% of the cost. Payments are taken out of your monthly paycheck or paid to the city office quarterly if you are not employed. I think it's around $30/month. In some cases, employers pay half the out of pocket cost. Quality of care at public hospital is good but not great. Lines tend to be long and waiting for outpatient care can be frustrating. There is a lot of "red-tape" too with lots of paperwork to file.
