You can prevent things from "flying" forward by strapping them down or using an object that is heavy or large enough that it couldn't gain sufficient momentum. Prevention is a lot easier than stopping the objects out right. Objects that are not strapped down or prevented for continuing their course, will remain at the speed they were traveling and as a consequence will continue to move forward.

Adam is right - prevention is much better than cure. The main way to stop stuff flying forward is to either stow it somewhere or secure it. If it's just small cabin stuff you're talking about, then you need to keep the stuff where it's not going to be able to fly forward - map pockets, bags or baskets or other recesses where you can stow it. If you're talking about cargo, then I wouldn't be carrying anything without a decent cargo barrier. Stack the gear against the cargo barrier and work back - tie down heavy objects if you have tie points. Stacking the gear against the barrier means that if you hit the brakes, the cargo is stationary against the barrier and it is only holding their weight (less if they're tied down). If something is back away from the barrier and it flies forward when you hit the brakes, then the barrier has to absorb the momentum of the object and bring it to a stop - this puts much more strain on it than simply preventing the load from shifting. You do not want stuff flying around in the cabin. Even a small paperback novel could do damage if it flew forward and hit you in the head.

Unless you absolutely need items lying around in your vehicle, remove them. Even strapping them down can prove ineffective in the face of serious crash forces. If you're traveling at 65 mph and your head comes to a halt during an accident (which hopefully it will because you're belted in), any loose item can strike you at 65 mph. With that force, even soft, innocent items can cause serious injury. We tell new moms and other drivers all the time that any item or toy in your car becomes a deadly missile in the event of a crash.

First, you need to clean in the inside of your automobile, from unnecessary debris. this will eliminate most of your problem. Second, try to eliminate sudden car stops. sometimes this is not possible, but if it is occuring because of bad driving habits, you need to drive more defensively.
