  • Most laptops can if you install a wifi card or if they already have one. You'll usually have the most luck with PCMCIA devices (if you have to install one), but USB and internal miniPCI cards are a possibility too. If you're running Linux or Mac, type "lspci" and/or "lsusb" and/or "lspcmcia" in a terminal and see if there is a wifi chip listed. You can google anything you don't recognize. If you're running M$ Winblows, START>RUN>devmgmt.msc [enter] and see if there is anything wifi listed. With either of the above having a wifi chip present doesn't mean you won't have to configure it. You might have to install a driver and/or configure a connection to a particular wireless router...
  • No. Not all laptops have wireless abilities. However, any laptop brought within the past year SHOULD have wireless capability. There is normally a switch at the front of the laptop thats turns the wireless adapter on and off, look for it, it could also be on the underside of the laptop and can be quite hard to find. A different method would be to look at the toolbar next to the clock in the bottom right corner of the screen, look for a PC symbol, hover the mouse over it and it should say "wireless network connection" or similar. If you have that, it is a safe bet you have wireless.
