It is a cheap, easy way to inflict maximum damage in an urban area. It is easier to walk down the street in an overcoat undetected than it is to drive a tank undetected. There is also the religious rewards that most suicide bombers seek to attain. Another advantage to this strategy is that it is harder to prevent than a conventional attack because anyone, including children can do it. When they have nuclear capability the need for suicide bombers will diminish, but until then they will use what they can

Firstly it is not a "tactile choice of terrorist groups". It is only really Muslim extremists who use this tactics. Secondly, the reason they do is because it is far less likely that a bomb would be found on the person than it would be if it were in a bag left on a street somewhere. Like it or not, suicide bombing is a proven tactic that works! Just to add, I am not a terrorist or a sympathiser! I think all terrorists are cowards that deserve to die alone and not in any kind of Jihad.

Why would they stop? It works the way they want it to. Any changing has got to be done on the side of the terrorized. Us. We have to learn to stop being terrorized. We must stop living in fear. We need to rethink life and what the loss of our peace of mind has cost. There are worse things than death. And better things than living in a prison of fear.

It is similar to the Kamikaze attacks on the US Navy in WWII, where Japanese planes deliberately crashed their planes (which were loaded with explosives) on the decks of US ships. If the perpetrator is willing to die, it is difficult to stop. But it definitely can be stopped. Israel was the victim of several suicide bombers per week. They used the strategy of going after the heads of the terrorist groups which sent the suicide bombers. The terrorist leaders, were definitely not keen on forfeiting their own lives to kill civilians. Israel, which received ridiculous criticism of their efforts to stop these despicable terrorist murderers, also has built a large security fence which immediately greatly reduced the number of suicide bombers. They also increased security at malls, and any areas which they believed would be targeted. They also set up security check points to make it more difficult for the terrorists. The US used similar tactics to reduce casualties from IEDs in Iraq. The most effective was targeting terrorist leaders. They realized ,if they continued to kill US soldiers, or in Israel: civilians, they would pay with their lives, which they weren't willing to do.
