Because its a casual atmosphere. Spelling isn't that important in that kind of setting.

I don't think that the misspellers really pay attention or care. It irritates me too, but what can you do!?

There are a few words I always spell wrong and firefox's spell check is not the best thing in the world! I think the main reason people spell wrongly on here is because it is not an exam or paper ect. It only bothers me when there spelling mistakes are obvious and HUGE in numbers!

I'd rather have the horrible spelling than the horrible attitude of some people here.

If you mispell a word and it is crucial to the meaning of the question then double check your spelling otherwise, let it fall where it may.

My spelling goes down the drain when my brains get fried doing AB at 5:00AM in the morning. (refer to another answer)

I suck at spelling. It doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about. But I also spend extra time making sure I spell my worts correctly before I post. I did not run spell check on this comment. So if I misspelled a word or two feel free to jog off!

I think its probably a bit like msn, or any other instant messengers, most people don't really check their spelling much.

Yeah... "phsichic" I know you saw that one.

I feel like im back at school!

its true that we could take some more time checking our questions before posting them, since when there is a crucial spelling mistake it can make the question confusing. for other spelling mistakes i think they can come from typing really fast and sometimes words simply fall through the cracks, no ones perfect after all! but i do believe spell check should be everyone's friend its easy and useful!!

Your "one's" should be "ones," although even that word is a weak choice. "People" or "users" would be better. But on to the question, people who can't spell believe, in stark contrast to my own belief, that their language doesn't speak volumes about their characters. I contend that weak spelling indicates that the person either didn't pay attention in school, or doesn't read, or cannot grasp how this language works; in other words, arrogance, ignorance, or laziness, all of which are undesirable character traits in my book. I can't remember the last time I corrected someone's spelling or grammar when the subject wasn't already introduced because, for one, to err is human. However, anyone with a fairly firm grasp of English understanding can tell the difference between an isolated mistake and a series of them. The argument is to be avoided in the latter case as well because the misspeller decries him/herself to be a victim of Grammar Police brutality and the correcter comes off as an oppressor of all things good. Even on my AB user profile page, in the subsection of my small AB watch list where I can see only a fragment of each Q and A, I notice an astounding number of grammar and spelling mistakes; I'd estimate that in that tiny list, 80% contain two mistakes or more. I can't imagine it being anything other than laziness or ignorance. I don't bring it up as it's a waste of time, but on the other hand I can't imagine how these people have no problem with publicly and semi-permanently displaying countless mistakes.
