Not me and I hope I have not been offending my friends when I tell them to have a nice day or to have a great day.

If it's said genuinely it's nice. If people say it because they have to then it has no meaning what so ever.

Would you rather be told to have a crappy day? I think I'll stick with have a nice day.

So, Buxtonite, do you also hate to hear someone say "How are you?" or "Good Morning" or "thank you" or "Take Care" or "Take it easy" or "Good luck" because you sense that they might not really mean it on a deep level? "Have a nice day" is just a polite American expression. Only an uptight, cynical jerk who takes things way too seriously would have a problem with it. (and it doesn't surprise me that you don't like it) Most people appreciate the simple day-to-day politeness we get from strangers. I know I do.

I love it. I travel a lot and it reminds me that I'm back home in America, where people, IMO, are far more friendlier.
