Are cops in unmarked cars suppose to pull you over? I heard on tv they don't but I saw it done a few months ago. What gives?

your state's penal code determines their jurisdiction and authority. Here in North Carolina and in Texas where I am from the police can and DO use unmarked vehicles to traffic control. VGQ+++ -Buddy

It varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Generally, most police departments do use unmarked police vehicles for several reasons. One is for undercover surveillance, the other is for traffic enforcement. Unmarked police vehicles must contain a siren and blue lights. In Tennessee, unmarked local and state police vehicles are used for traffic enforcement.

It depends on the state law. My father is a retired officer in Ohio and he had once told me that in Ohio that only a uniformed officer in a marked car can pull you over for a moving violation. However, here in Kentucky there is no such law, they have unmarked cars running traffic all the time. I was told that if you are pulled over by an unmarked car, to slow down and put your flasher on, then drive (slowly) to a public area. If you are showing the officer that you are not evading them (by putting on your flashers and slowing down) they usually will understand when you explain why you drove to a public area. Better safe than sorry :)
