I've always charged mine overnight. The lithium ion batteries found in new cell phones don't have a "memory" and are not damaged by charging too long or too little. My husband used to work for a cell phone company and he also charges his overnight. I think you were right about the employee not being that knowledgable.

They tell me that the battery should drain completely from time to time because batteries have memories and they will hold charges better that way. However, I charge mine overnight, every night. Of course, this one has only been working for two years - so who knows?
-
Nope, they're full of it.
-
I do think it does depend on the battery. Like cyndimh said the new ones are different than the ones they used to have around. Once they are charged they just stop charging and sit there.
-
The battery does not know what time it is.
-
No. The battery is charged by an electronic circuit that carefully controls the whole charging process, and shuts off (or reduces to a trickle) the charge current when the battery is full. It's completely automatic - just check the 'charging status' indicator on the screen.
-
No it does not . That was a fallacy when the phones first came on the market . I have always left my phones on charge and have never had a battery go dead on me yet.
-
No it doesn't. I've left my all night long and nothing happened to it. The battery stayed the same for the same length of period.
-
Yes it does damage the battery because this is what happens. Ill use a AA rechargable battery for example: _________________________ {........................................................] {......................O..................................] {_________________________] - + Negative Positive (dont mind the periods/ there nothing)Now every time that you overcharge (overnight) the battery will form a sulfur crystal (O) and the more it is over charged the bigger the crystal gets... Once the crystal reaches both ends of the poles (-/+) the battery is useless... so point blank dont over charge.

I've charged mine overnight with no problems.
