When does a cult become a cult?

Very good question, and I think there are multiple answers. Such as: When individuals lose their individuality and freedom (to some extent) When individuals are brainwashed into making personal/material sacrifices (such as donating ALL their property/money etc) for the cult When outside communication is diminished or cut off I think that any of the above would be the starting point of a "cult".
