We were late in coming into the 2 biggies, WW1 & 2, because we thought it wasn't our fight. There was enthusiasm for the Civil War & the Span-Am war. In Korea & Vietnam we were confronting Communism. In the Gulf War we were liberating a brutally sacked country, which, yes, had oil. (And it's OK for a country to look out for its national interests and those of the rest of the free world.) In any war, you get jingoistic people who are eager to invade without understanding the issues. As a whole, I think that Americans would be happiest just being left alone and out of foreign problems.

I don't believe all Americans like to fight but many will not back down from a fight.

If you look at history, the answer is no. It took Pearl Harbor to get us into WWII and there was a fight worth fighting. Governments like to fight - the people do not. Now if you are speaking one on one - fight or flight is an instinct and there for the purposes of survival. Fortunately we can overrule that intsinct using a little known part of the body called the forebrain which enables us to make choices. While I feel verbal debate is a healthy sharing of ideas, I find violence rarely begets anything but more violence. But notice I said rarely, not never. There are those few that understand nothing else - back to the forebrain and choice.

I think the Alamo shows the American's fighting spirit. I have to say, fairplay to that one, chaps. But I have to say, AmorphousBlob, I believe America tried isolationism in the 1920s-30s, and it didn't quite work out properly, as you guys had to keep trading with other countries so they could repay the war debts, and it meant you made money off the exports as well, so it's not quite isolationalist, and without exports, I don't truly know how well America would do.

Bring it and find out!

I'd say thats a more human trait than any American one. That said, YOU, ME, OUT BACK, NOW!

i'm Canadian. and i believe most Americans enjoy fighting.. i've never had a good encounter with any American before. they just all seem so stuborn. and arragent..
-
No. That problem belongs to all of the human race, of which Americans are only a small part.
-
sure i guess so lol. my school, at least 2-3 fights a day

I'm an American and I honestly don't like fighting. To be honest I think it's stupid, pointless, and just a way to fit in. I don't think fighting is the answer, but talking out your problem(s) is.
-
I'm not interested in fighting. Thought people similar to me always want to pick a fight over something stupid.
-
No more so than any other nationality yo...
-
Not any more than any other nationality.

you have to be more specific. we love to fight where everybody comes out alive. when we have to fight where death is imminent, there is no fair fighting. then we fight to win!!
-
Yes. Of course. We do everything together in lockstep.
