  • How long has it been since your last coloring? Start at the roots and then do the rest, as the roots are less porous and therefore, will absorb dye more slowly. ( I always start with the roots anyway, but in case you don't... do.) By the time you have finished touching the roots you can pull the dye through and it should have a more even look. You might consider a porosity control product before coloring as hair breaks down with each new chemical process. Usually darker colors (chocolate Cherry should be darker than level four Ash brown) will take over lighter ones. Grey is the exception. It might take a little longer to absorb the dye. Don't forget to do a test on a piece to make certain you will obtain the color you want.
  • I used a 20 vol. on it tonight to reduce grays at the roots, but pretty much coated the whole head of hair. Normally I go 4 weeks between dyeing. After I had gone a pitch black, I used this awesome tube stuff for dark hair and a 40 vol. and it worked really well to turn my hair a light strawberry blonde. I thought I'd use the same product, because I think the red is lighter than my dark brown. Are you saying I should do the roots first? Won't they turn out bright bright red at 40 volume? Should I do the roots a lower volume? Or should I just go have it done at the hair dresser? Thanks!
