  • No it is not wrong. The church you "used" to go to was wrong to tell you it is sinful to wear gold jewelry. They are the misguided who are a bit confused or uniformed about false gods and the use of gold and silver. The basis - an abomination in Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy 7:25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the Lord thy God.
  • This is one way of applying I Peter 3:3-4. While I don't think it necessarily declares any amount of jewelry sinful, it does call for women to examine their hearts in their attitudes toward it, or any other items of fashion which they might rely on for outward beauty. The Christian ideal of humility--for men and women both, really--is to avoid unnecessarily drawing attention to our own attractiveness and instead to allow God's worth and glory to receive honor. It is possible to draw attention to oneself by, and take sinful pride in, being exceptionally plain.
