Good question! I would have to go with photograph because the objective of a movie is to tell a story through a series of pictures. One single photograph very often tells a story as well. Like this one:

Film IS photography. Motion pictures usually suffer from any combination of the mediums. The lengthy explanations of complicated storylines are awkward in films but fine for novels. Film is a soundless medium, preventing the characters from verbally expressing themselves.
