Why do so many people think that disagreement equals dislike?

My mom is that way and it drives me insane! If we all agreed on everything this world would be a boring place. I enjoy having healthy disagreements. It is interesting to see someone elses perspective and why they came to that conclusion. For me it is easy to disagree with someone, talk it out and still like them. By the way, I'm a female. (my husband says that makes a difference in my answer)

It's because they emotionally invest into their ideas. Their ideas become their identity, therefore disagreement with their ideas becomes disagreement with them as a person.

Because they are probably closed minded and shallow thinkers assuming to much.
