i always thought that somewhere in the song it said "if i was green i would die" which kind of makes sense.

Unrelated answer, but it reminded me of something: When Eiffel 65 was coming to town, their flier had in large font 'Blue', larger than the band name. I had never seen a concert flier where a band's song was advertised more than the band itself.
