According Edward Pessen, The Log Cabin Myth: The Social backgrounds of the Presidents, 82% of US presidents were born into families of privileged upper-middle class status or better. The rest were born raised in middle-class or lower-middle class families. Only one, A. Johnson, came from the upper lower class.
