Not only on AB. And I don't always refrain myself.
-
Refrain myself? Never!
-
All the time. Sometimes I gently correct and try to teach. Most of the time, though, I just have to ignore it. Some people here are just too freaking defensive, and don't care to learn anything.
-
i try to do it politely.
-
Nope. My own grammer sucks.
-
There ain't no way I'm not gonna be correcting the gross violation of the roles of grammer around hear!
-
Yeah. I realize that, for most people, I won't really be able to make them try to use better grammar in the future, and I'll probably come off as an asshole.
-
...I'm not sure 'refrain yourself' is grammatically correct. Couldn't you just say refrain?
-
Those who do not have perfect grammar should be very refrainish. I would fall in to that category.
-
All the time! Not just on Answerbag but all the time! Mistakes in grammar and punctuation really annoy me! And it's often the simplest things that people get wrong, like "its" and "it's", "there" and "their" and "your" and "you're".
-
not concern with it as there is different people from places. if there point is made, and i understand it. then i dont need to correct them this is not school.
-
i used to. Now, I've just given up on it.
-
It depends. I corrected someone the other day and got a right (virtual) earbashing for it. I got called a 'spelling nazi'. It wasn't even the spelling I was correcting! It drives me mental, so I tend to just shout at my computer screen instead (and get odd looks from the cat). Of course, now I'm paranoid someone's going to correct my grammar.....
-
Yes.... often....especially things like: "we was goin 2 _________ but we dint wut does u think?" "Or ThIs StUfF, WhIcH I Do NoT gEt" lol.... It does bug me, but I am not entirely sure my grammar is perfect either.
-
It gets to me a bit. I taught English for 10 years, so it is ingrained into my mind to edit constantly. But, there are people here that are ESL, so it makes it easier. What drives me mad are those who think they are writing correctly, but they are way off. It is like nails on a chalk board!
-
I am not a good singer so refraining myself would be just too cruel to everyone else on Answerbag. But lately, I do try to restrain myself from making too many corrections - it would be a full-time job if I addressed all the spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation errors here.
-
Yes, I quite often have to refrain myself. Sometimes I do better than other times.
-
all the time. most people don't take the time to spell correctly.
-
Every day.
-
You used the word "refrain" improperly. I RESTRAIN myself. =)
-
I have to refrain from correcting not only grammar but also biased answers and wrong answers. When I see answers that are obviously someones guess, I can't stand it!
-
Not any more. It's too big a problem. We have different regions of origin, and even different countries. I make mental notes, but don't go further than that. Instead of correcting others, I do the best I can to use clear, standard English as an example. AB might just be a really good language training tool for some people, and I want to contribute to that end if I can.
