There are many. It is at the discretion of any employer to withhold offers to convicted felons. Here is a sampling:

It depends on what type of felony it is.. i have a credit card abuse- did 6 months and i know that i cant hold any job involved with money (banks, tellers etc.) cant write any prescribtions (so that leaves out anything past a nurse)

And no offense but no matter how hard you work and bust your ass there still going to look at it- and its still going to matter..believe me there are restrictions to what felons can and can not do so make sure if your furthering your career (going to school etc) you have to make sure you can even do the job first...because big jobs like lawyers, docts, nurses, psychologists, etc.. haves bars you have to pass and commitees you have to go in front of and guess what having a felony automatically denies your bar.

    http://www.solutionsfortexas.info/id73.html

this is an excellent website...Gives alot of info on what all restrictions for felons including housing, financial aid etc.. even gives a short list of jobs that felons cant do (now keep in mind it is for the state of tx) but im sure its pretty similar everywhere..

Now i will say this, dont listen to people when they say you cant do something i know first hand that felons CAN vote, and for anyone who is looking to hire you, your also considered a tax deduction. Yah up to 2400 off the companies taxes...yep
I did my research while i was incarcerated and i found out alot of things now im trying to get into school and i have to figure out what i can and cannot do..
    Well i hope this helped

you can,t find a job that can support you, you will need 2 jobs now most times it depends on what state. i have lived all over the USA and have never got a job that could support me. the 1 time i did it took them a little time to find out and i got fired and its been more than 10 years, and now with the job market full, and with illegal immigrants. well those were are jobs, jobs they say no one needs. see the problem is not geting a job but getting not fired tell no one make no friends and do not bring co workers around your real friends. yes had one mess up and say something. and maybe finish at the top of your class so they will not even look. YOUR BEST BET IS TO ASK PEOPLE YOU KNOW FOR JOBS. networking. i wish all for you the best luck. and the answer is to many to list

dont put felony on the app.(if its over 7-10 years old) most companies dont go back farther than 5 years... if they want to waste money to do a background check so be it, if not, no harm.

Well, your license is taken away as a lawyer... I know that for sure. That's of course if you are convicted. I think it's the same way for doctors.

My problem is I know what I CANT do or where I CANT work. lol! I am a highly qualified woman. Have a felony conviction " endangering a child" from an auto accident - no injuries- in which I had a minor drive my car because I was intoxicated. Never in trouble before that conviction. But, now I am labled! This is destroying me. I now know why people end up on the streets. I am trying to get my expired cosmetology license back. But they are doing a backgroud check on me as well! 18 years in the industry and might not be able to gt my license back.
I made a mistake. I take the blame. Not in denial! I am a smart, attractive, hardworking woman..with a felony. What am i to do?? My po says they have "help" to get a job! I dont have a problem with interviews, or communication. I am educated. But they see I have a felony conviction and its NO!
My conviction is only 2.5 yrs old.
    UGH! help!!!

It is up to each and every company, but for example, if you are a felon as a result of a sexual crime against a child, a school, or a place, that children are present, would not even consider you! If you are a felon, as a result of a robbery, or embezlement, no one would consider you, so you can see, without proper knowledge on what your felony charges are, it is hard to say. You may not work for a place that sells guns, or weapons no matter what. This is all I know right off hand.

To my knowledge all big chain companies have the policy not to hire, even fast-food companies. Usually jobs have to be thru a privately owned business where the employer can decide themselves.

    Hello Melissa,

Usually employment restrictions are relative to the the conviction. For example, a person convicted of drug offenses may be prohibited from employment in the medical field. A person with a sexual offense probably would be excluded from working in a day care center or a nursing home. Generally speaking there are no no legal restrictions for employment.

I didn't wind up in DOC for my felony physical control DUI for sleeping in a parked car with no intent to drive, because of Illinois ridiculous case law, just a short stay at county jail. The judge, my attorney, and the bailiff that escorted me to jail after my sentencing said to me if I went to DOC for the felony that would make it difficult to get a job, and if I only went to a county jail for the felony, it's not so bad. I think they're right because I had job interviews, and got a job shortly after release.

To tell you the truth, if you received the felony for such a stupid reason, I don't see why anyone would have a problem getting a job. As a last resort, try the army, navy, air force, or marines, and see if they care if you're a felon.

A factory, or someplace that provides companies with incentives for hiring felons will possibly work also.

I was convicted of a class 4 felony DUI for being in physical control of an automobile in the middle of winter. I didn't drive the car, just sleeping in the driver seat. All I was doing was just sleeping with a heater turned on in a car, took it to jury trial and lost. The assistant states attorney during the trial said case law in Illinois says no intent to drive doesn't matter, and the car could've possibly moved. Jury convicted me without getting all the facts in the case, because all that was talked about was police report. I told the judge and probation that I thought DUI tickets were about saving lives, and that the possibility of the car moving was like me winning the lottery or getting struck by lighting, or hell freezing over. Judge said: doesn't matter a law is a law, and I had to go to jail. He said as long as I didn't wind up in DOC for the felony, it was a good thing.
