John Steinbeck and William Saroyan..I wrote a fan letter to John Steinbeck many years ago and he replied..I have a postcard in his handwriting that starts out "Dear Rosemarie" and what he wrote to me is absolutely beautiful...if/when we meet face-to-face, I shall show it to you! :)

Nice question, was going to ask it myself had it not previously existed. My favorites include: Joyce, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Marx, and Dumas, just to name a few.

Didn't Mark Twain say he wanted to dig Jane Austen up and beat her skull with her shin bone? What a character, and yes, my favorite classic author!
