The highest I've ever payed for a dog is a $160 shelter fee for a very charming border collie mix, but most of my dogs have been free strays and re-homers. :)

Australian Shepard $800 We also have a mutt that we found in a field. He racked up well over $1000 in being a not so bright puppy fees in his first year with us o_O

I have had several rescue dogs which cost between $40-$125, but now I have a purebred chow chow. She was $1300 (it would have been $1800 had I chosen to breed or show her). Excellent breeder, champion bloodlines and OFA certified parents.

We bought an Afghan Hound puppy (Mindy) back in 1981 and she cost £500 we had her for 16 years I still miss her today. My 2 cocker spaniels cost £450 each
