It's not just bad experiences or disappointments, or any of the things listed here. Lots of people have bad things happen to them and do not become bitter. Bitter people are those who cannot get past the disappointments of their life. They dwell on them, hug them to their chest and make them the defining factor of their lives.
Disappointment after disappointment.
A high view of their own self importance!
Shitty life experiences that they can't let go of.
I think bitterness is a sign of emotional failure.
I've known "bitter" people who actually had it quite good compared to others around them. So, they lack gratefulness, are very self centered. When something good would happen to someone they were always so cynical, could never be happy for others. I just took it as envy and jealousy..these two emotions have been around since Cain. Dangerous.
Unrealistic expectations.
Mainly Dissappointments - when you are there for others and those others do not reciprocate. People who use people.....and take and take...
Mostly who they are .... That said, when people do everything right, follow the rules, work hard towards a goal and then for no reason they have control over, no reason that is just/ reasonable or understandable....they get screwed.
Some folks can pick themselves up and get on with their lives but many internalize the disappointment, feel helpless and feel they cannot win and just hold on to that festering sore forever.
fear, greed, not being happy with what you've got
Living in the past, because if you are living completely in the present moment, there would not be any space for the bitterness of the past - sounds a little new-agy, sorry!
Anger.
Indifference and disassociation and last but not the least, denial. In other words, inability or unwillingness to understand other's emotions while or before butchering those.
Not knowing God and the choices they make every day of their life to be that way.
What they perceive as very painful life's experiences.
Continual lack of empathy.
People that treat others in a disgusting manner! If you were treated in such a way you would be bitter and you would know why!
a lot of hurt, pain and jealousy in thier lives.:)
Jealousy and discontentment with life. Bitterness only results whenever somebody's better at something that the other is not.
Being treated unfairly and being disappointed with their lot in life.
Having goals beyond their limits.
Pain.
too many lemons
no seriously, I think bitterness is caused by many different things but jealousy being the main one.
Dark Chocolate.
jealousy
That is kinda broad, but i think I can oblige. Maybe having a person you've known since being a teenager betray you and never apologizing for it and leaving that person with no explaination as to why the shit just hit the fan. It can only get worse from there the longer it goes on. Some murderers are made that way, but not me. I never had it in me to harm anyone like that. All of this is just a theory of course.
being locked up for a lengthy amount of time beside the decease that is the english
when the things does not work out the way they wanted.
Bitterness.
Using too much Thyme and not enough salt during roasting.
many reasons i guess but revenge, hatered and jeously carried by someone eventually makes them bitter.
Sometimes it a case of clinical depression, but that's only a part of it. The inability to control one's destiny, if, for example, one is an invalid (don't you love that "in-valid"), the spirit rages at the unfairness of the situation. That comes out as bitter remarks, negative ideation, and, in the case at hand at my house, it leads to further isolation.
Hurt. There is a saying that human beings only hurt another when they are hurt themselves.
The inability to forgive and forget.
Sometimes life is just too sweet, and who doesn't need a little contrast?
I think a traumatic experience could. In other cases less "traumatic" I think its lack of love - for self, others - no healing mechanism. and overall not choosing, using or seeking options to go beyond the pain or jealousy, etc.
Prolly drugs
betrayal
Life can, as in Naomi's case....she at 1 time changes her name to Mara, which means bitter.....but hey, it worked out....she BELIEVED...
unfriendly behavior!
being sarcastic or bcoz of jealousy and lack of attention..
If you use too much anise, or, overcooking them.
i think it's a jelousy of not being able to integrate into a social life, not because of a lack of social skills but a failure to lauch into friendships due to ignorant and selfish people surrounding them and no invitation from people to join the circle of society.
Money and disrespectful people.
My ex was very bitter. Im not going to go in details, but she never got over this problem she had a long time ago when she was younger. I was with her for four years, and I don't think she ever got over it. She was very unrealistic about meets and demands, very spoiled, and yet hardly got along with her parents at all. Even her best friend has told me that even she can't stand her sometimes because of the ridiculous views she has.
