  • This is most likely an electrical problem. If the engine cuts off, but the starter will crank and all the electrical accessories (lights, radio, etc.) work, than it could be something like a bad fuel pump relay, bad ignition module, or failing engine control computer. If the car goes completely 'dead', then the most likely culprit is a bad ignition switch (the electrical portion). Good luck.
  • thanks the engine just shuts off everything else works tried a fuel pump relay and it din't help
  • Could be the rotor in your distributor cap -- sometimes if the rotor has not been replaced at a certain time it becomes corroded and electrically loses contact after the car shuts off and has sit for a while the rotor has cooled off and can start again. This is just a thought but to be sure you should have it checked by a professional car mechanic..
