I've messed around with this many a time, and while it sounds complex it really isn't too bad. Best program to use to do this is shoutcast. www.shoutcast.com Shoutcast is a program best used with winamp www.winamp.com Download the shoutcast DSP for winamp, and the shoutcast DNAS server from that site. Lets forget about the mic a sec, and focus on the first bit -getting your station 'online' so other can hear it. How well this works/if it works at all depends on your connection bandwidth and how you are connected. Most home cable/dsl packages won't allow all that many people to listen to your station, but it's not a total waste of time. Unless you pay for someone else to serve for you, forget about doing it with a 56 modem - you could only serve one crappy sounding stream to one person. Anyway.. fire up winamp, play the music you'd like to play, and activate the shoutcast DSP. Another window will pop up . . . Please refer to their site for specifics on this as it depends on your connection and net setup (of which I know neither). Basically you get this DSP to connect to the DNAS server, which lets assume is also running on your own pc (it doesn't have to) When those are connected and working (again check the sites, they are helpful with specifics I can't offer here). You are pretty much ready to rock. Using a mic can be done with the line-in plugin for winamp, or you can change the mode of the shoutcast capture to capture everything out of you sound card, so u can simply speak over your music. This should be enough info to get you going. Please bear in mind that if you live in the US you're screwed if you want to do this 'above board' with popular music (i.e. cd's u can pick up from the shops). Technically you have to pay royalties and such. Again, check the site, it is very informative.
