  • Yeah, eventually. I, personally, can't wait. Just a few more billion years...
  • Yes, in time it will. However, all of us will be dead, and this is in many billions of years.
  • I could say yes, I will say I don't know, though.
  • Not "For Sure". The sun will almost certainly become a red giant - it seems to be a standard sun death process. It will almost certainly swallow Mercury and probably Venus. Earth may be spared the swallowing, but would definitely be fried to a crisp anyway. We have a while to wait though...
  • Almost definitely, but nothing is completely 100%. One never knows, a wandering black whole might swallow it up first.
  • Probably one of these days.
  • One day but dont worry you will be very, very....very recurring, old when it happens :o)
  • Only if the Earth is really, really nice to it, and maybe buys it dinner first.........;)
  • Every time someone submits a question in all caps, the Sun gets that much closer. It's kinda like fairies and children clapping.
  • Well The Sun can't really swallow it since it doesn't have a mouth. ;)
  • Yes, thats what the scientist say. Should be another 500 million years or so. I am pissed about it. There was so much more I wanted to do.
  • No. Moon will swallow sun and create darkness on earth unless King pay large ransom to me to stop the devouring. No, King must not think about it, must answer now before devouring is complete and the time to save the sun is forever eclipsed by the moment.
  • Eventually. It will be a long long time though, so you don't have to worry. Mankind will probably not exist any longer when that happens, let alone be bound to the earth.
  • Most likely not. In about 4 or 5 billions years the sun will enter the "Red Giant" phase, in which the sun will expand dramatically. The expansion of the sun will most likely reach the current position of Earth's orbit, but the mass lost from the early stages of the red giant phase will cause the Earth's orbit to move further out, preventing it from being engulfed. The water will boil and most of the atmosphere will escape into space, causing survival on Earth impossible.
  • yes, one day, eventualy.
  • No the earth will NOT be swallowed, before becoming a red giant the sun will go thru one important step called the subgiant phase, during this phase life on earth will nearly be extinct and the earth will be pushed out of its orbit, but the red giant phase happens long after this step, so to sum all o this up i just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance!!
  • i've been trying hard to not think about that or 2012 lately. thanks for refreshing my mind.
  • Yes. As mentioned previously, the sun will expand during it's red giant phase. In doing so it will swallow up Mercury and Venus, Earth was assumed to be safe since the radius of the Sun would still be less than that of Earth's orbit. However, Earth would not orbit the same... think of a satellite - it orbits the earth at some speed high above the atmosphere quite happily. If that same satellite were placed in the atmosphere it would lose speed through friction and eventually crash land. If you want to think about it another way, an airplane cruising at high altitude is a lot safer than one flying 10 foot off the ground.
  • eventually
  • I believe it is supposed to next Tuesday.
