  • Well I don't think government will ever succeed at simplifying tax structures permanently, because it's just too tempting a target to manipulate as time goes by -- rewarding or punishing different segments of the population, business interests, etc. I'm a lot less concerned with tax rates than I am with what we DO with all that money. I tend to favor taking care of our infrastructure, preparing for the future, providing education, and other domestic spending as opposed to (for example) sending it overseas in the form of guns and bombs. But that's just me.

  • In other words, income taxes on the poorest (who currently pay zero up to some amount) go up while taxes on those making $100k+ (who supposedly pay 31% on that money) go down. And I bet capital gains (e.g. making money sitting around on your butt) are exempt or pay a much lower rate.
