I did. My son went to pre-school for about 6 months, and then he went to pre-k for a year before starting kindergarten.

I didn't send my son to preschool, but he did start kindergarten just before he turned 4. He was teaching himself to read and write. I wasn't ready to have him go to school, but I felt I would be holding him back if I didn't respond to his learning level. I did send my daughter to K 1/2. She needed that extra boost before kindergarten. Learning didn't come easy to her, and in fact it still doesn't. She's in 9th grade this year. She was supposed to be in 10th.

I sent my son to pre-school in Massachusetts where we lived for 5 years and where he was born. I did it to socialize him because he didn't really have any playmates. The first day I took him there, he dashed out among the kids and started playing with them..he didn't even look back at me. When I came back ,I had to pick him up and carry him away because he was struggling and crying... he was having such a good time that he didn't want to leave..so I knew I would never have to worry about his ability to get along with others! :)

I did, and although I felt guilt at the time, it was probably the best thing I've done so far, parenting-wise. She was well institutionalised (!) by the time she went to school and settled in far quicker than those kids who didn't go to pre-school. She had a good grounding in language and maths and is a year or so ahead of her age in reading. Could be she's just naturally clever, of course - I couldn't claim the credit for that!
