A substitution reaction is where atoms in a molecule are replaced by atoms from another molecule. C6H6 + HNO3 (heat and H2SO4 as catalyst) forms C6H5NO2 + H2O At http://www.cem.msu.edu/~reusch/VirtualText/benzrx1.htm there is a button for an animation demonstrating a substitution reaction and it also lists some other Benzine substitution reactions.
