  • Where did you get the value for that place from? I VERY much doubt it was anywhere near that costly!
  • No. It was not uncommon, and therfore not really strange, for Kings, Queens,nobles, et cetera to have an outrageous level of luxury compared to their subjects. It was common practice to bleed subjects dry by way of taxes or outright seizure of their property to finance wars and opulent lifestyles. Greedy yes, strange no.
  • I don't find it strange at all, especially when you consider that we have a similar "proletariat and bourgeoisie" setup. 90% of the wealth in United States is held by 10% of the population. Having taught school in a couple low-income areas and knowing people that live in some of the richest parts of the United States I can certainly see how ridiculous the situation we live in now is.
