Is it ok to torture a terrorist for information? Would you kill someone to save your life? Would you die for a stranger? Is it ok to rob the rich to give to the poor? Is it ok to scream "movie!" in a crowded firehouse? How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Got Milk?

-If given too much change by a cashier, would you return it? Who is hurt by the actions you decide to make? -Is it OK to call in sick to work when you really aren't? -How much work do you owe your employer for the wage he pays you? What if you get a big raise? Does this change the percentage of work you should be doing in exchange for the wage? -Is is less wrong to steal from a large company than it is to steal from a small one? Why? Work out who will be hurt by theft in either company (ie: stockholders, employees, suppliers, customers, etc...)

I have two situations that work well: When asking about Utilitarianism, ask if, since it is the greatest good for the greatest number of people, torturing one person for the entertainment of millions would be ethical. Another hypothetical situation: Imagine you are out in the woods, and you stumble upon 100 natives who been captured by militants. The militants tell you that if you kill one native, they will let the others go, but if you don't, they all die. Would you kill the native, or not? Another: Imagine you are in Nazi Germany during WWII. A jewish family has taken refuge in your home, and two Nazi soldiers knock on your door asking if you have seen any Jewish families, or are harboring any Jews. Do you answer truthfully or lie to them?

One my high school advanced History teacher asked: Imagine yourself in a Nazi Concentration Camp. Someone in your bunker has come across a list of the next people to be exterminated. You have the opportunity to replace a healthy 10 year old boy on the list with your favourite uncle, who is aged and feeble. The choice is given to you to decide. Do you make the switch?
