Assuming that you mean school history books discussing that period, then they obviously aren't a very comprehensive book. If you are discussing math books, then well, they shouldn't really need to talk about history. If the book is denying the holocaust then the book should be brought to the attention of the Anti-Defamation League so that they can discuss the matter with the school board that finds this book on their available curriculum.

Well, it depends on the history book. If there was a school text book which was about warfare and military tactics during world war 2, the Holocaust does not need to be covered. If it is a general historical book, ignoring the Holocaust as if it were a non-topic is incomprehensible since it was such a significant event. It's omition from the history books will at the very least render that book flawed - and at most could be a sign of the more sinister genocide denial and ever prevalent anti-Semitism alive and well in our societies today. I find it almost as troubling when the Holocaust is mis-taught. While it is important to remember these terrible crimes in our recent past, the purpose of the lessons should not be to only teach what happened but to explain why it was allowed to come about. There is absolutely no value in stating that people were murdered without explaining the context. How could such a thing happen in the most liberal society in the world in that era? This is *the* important lesson of the Holocaust, and if you do not understand the dynamics German society in the 1930's then I do not feel there is much benefit in learning what that society did.

They are written and chosen by moral cowards who are afraid to annoy a militant minority.

An Austrian friend of mine who grew up in the 50's told me that it wasn't mentioned in their school books .. in Austria! As hate crimes are on the rise again, my opinion is that we ought to teach history, ALL of it, so that we're not doomed to repeat it.

When did we start letting the president of Iran write the history books? ((Drum solo) This is just sickening. The Holocaust was one of the majour historical events of the history of man kind and to try and sweep it under the rug tells me someone's trying to rewrite history and poision our children's mind. If the Holocaust is missing I can only imagine what other little edits have been done.

edits have been done all the time, history is written by people, people have their own beliefs, hence they instill their works with these beliefs. but nobody will forget the holocaust unless a facist or neo-nazi government took over the world. and i dont think its possible [leaving it out] considering the photographs taken, the first hand accounts, even with interpretation, theres not much you can say, lots of people definitely died, there were definitely gas chambers which were used and there was definitely anti-jewish propaganda, its hard to go against the accepted "facts" here, so those that leave it out completely (ie ignore it) are just stupid.

Seems about as messed up as Vietnam War text books that leave out the 4 million figure.

It infuriates me and I am one of the ones who are fighting such exclusions. I am also in the fight to have our deaths (the "Gypsies") recognized at all. There is a repulsive movement of Holocaust deniers (white supremacists and neo-Nazis head that league) to obliterate the memory of the Holocaust. They call it the "Holohoax". I have read their poison. There is a little bit of amusement here. There is a "band" called "Prussian Blue"... they are rabid white supremacists. Prussian Blue is another name for Zyclon B... the gas they used in the gas chambers. Here is an example of how the Holocaust was hidden in AMERICA so Americans would not raise a stink: http://www.amazon.com/Buried-Times-Holocaust-Important-Newspaper/dp/0521812879
