Besides a cell phone, how can I obtain or construct a timer or alarm to sound at a time every 48 hours throughout the year?

    The first person to answer this question mentioned using Outlook. In case you don't have Outlook, you can schedule a task using "Scheduled Tasks" in the Windows Control Panel. It's not very user-friendly though. If you don't have Outlook, leave a comment to this answer and I'll reply with the instructions. Or, you could always download an alarm widget from Yahoo. Those are pretty awesome!

    You can do this in Outlook. Go to the calander function and set an alarm for the same time every 48 hours for the entire year. You can even make it repeat itself the year after. Then never turn your PC off.
