For me, flirting is a way to show that I like a person both as a very good friend and that they are attractive in some way and appeal to me. It is never intended as an invitation to take it any farther. Sometimes being overly friendly is mistaken as flirting. And some people thing 'coming onto' someone is flirting, thus giving the impression that if someone is flirting... they want to do more than be friends with you. I have no intentions of cheating on my wife, but I still flirt with ladies that I like, and can do so, because there is no threat that I will do anything with them and they know it.

Flirting is just a fun thing with no real intentions and feelings. Genuine interest goes deeper than that, you truly want to get to know the person and connect with them on many other levels.
