Why do some cars have a speedometer that reads up to 160 mph when the maximum speed limit anywhwere (in the US) is 75 mph?

B/c cars aren't built to just be driven in the U.S. In fact many "American" cars are built overseas.

Would you buy a $100,000 sports car if the speedometer went to 80? It's marketing. If you put a 160 mph speedometer in a car that can only do 100, it makes the customer feel better when his buddies look at it when its parked. Stupid I know, but such is the male ego.

No, the question should be, "Why is the max speed limit 75mph when cars are capable of 160mph ?" ;)
