  • That's how Scientific Classification works. There are catagories that are broken down into sub-catagories. Each step gets more specific. Here's the order: Kingdom > Phylum > Class > Order > Family > Genus > Species There are other subdivisions, but those do not pertain to this situation. The "scientific name" of any species is determined by the combination of "genus " and "species". For example, humans are "homo sapiens". "Homo" is the genus, "sapiens" is the species. As you see above, "order" is subdivided into "family". Family is then broken down into "genus". So, any group of birds in the same family are also in the same order, class, phylum, and kingdom.
