Sad poems are more interesting. And I think I'd rather know that people feel sad the same way I do, than happy all the time.

because when you're happy you call all your friends and go out for pizza, but when you're sad you brood around by yourself and write poetry. :)

I think I agree with the others a bit. When we're happy we tend to be out in the world living, whereas when we're sad we get a bit more introspective (I know there are exceptions here, but as a general rule it's probably true.) Also I think that old thing "when you laugh the world laughs with you when you cry you cry alone" is true here. When you're sad and lonely you're more likely to want to know that your sadness is not unique and need someone or something to reach out to you and recognise the sadness - hence when we're miserable we tend to reach for the Morrisey records - it sort of validates your own sadness and makes it feel normal.

Fine us a true poet, and then we'll know it. For only a true poet would be able show it.........M.C.S.

There are less happy poems than sad ones because writing is an escape for a lot of writers, including poets. I have written poetry. I know. ;)
