  • Being thin is healthy, so I think those dolls are OK. Who wants a society composed mostly of girls who look like Cabbage Patch Dolls?
  • I never really thought it was such a big deal until I saw one of those My Scene barbie dolls. She looked like a prostitute. It is unhealthy for a toy to look like that for the same reason we don't encourage little girls to read Cosmo. Young girls have enough trouble with self-esteem without pop culture shoving this unrealistic doll, with her unattainable body measurements in their faces. Excellent question.
  • No it doesn't, absolutely not. By the way I see a big difference between the two. BRAZ is more a pedophile magnet. The kind of , and the amount of makeup on, the breasts that don't go with the age of the doll the whole thing. There have to be creative toy makers out there whose mind is not on making them look "sexy" Children and sex don't go together.
  • Well, Barbies are okay, because sometimes they're not very... bodacious, I know I spelled that wrong. Bratz, oh, don't get me started! Short belly shirts, mini, mini skirts, LOTS AND LOTS of makeup... when I was a kid, I thought to myself,"When I'm a teenager, I'm SO going to dress like this!" Or,"WHEN I dress like this, I will be SO popular!" But we all know, caring to much about being popular won't get you anywhere.
  • Didn't the Simpsons do an episode where Lisa designed a doll to be a roll model for girls. She was average looking and said intelligent things, but it wasn't popular. Popularity sells, and money rules.
  • I wouldn't let my daughter have one even if it was given as a gift. But then, I don't let her watch regular TV and cartoons either, so she doesn't know they exist to want one. And she is probably too much of a tomboy to enjoy them. She'd probably do the same thing to a Barbie that I did: break the legs off her trying to make her ride a Breyer horse. Fortunately, she seems to have the same tastes that I did as a child. She couldn't care less about toys with bells and whistles, but she loves the old Marx playset dollhouse that my aunt found in a junk shop. It does nothing, but she has to participate and use creativity and imagination to enjoy it. She also almost cried today when she found out my sewing machine was dead. I'd promised she could have it when she was old enough. She calmed down when I promised I'd get her another one when she was ready. She likes to do things and make things, not passively watch them and let them tell her how to be.
  • ...Ay, whatever. Everythings screwed up these days. LoL, point being, I cant keep her from playin with em, or watchin certain shows...infact her favorite show is "Barbie and the diamond castle"...The point is, theres always gonna be propaganda out there tryin to sell sex, and images of girls before they even know what they are. SOOOOOOOOO...instead of hiding them from the girls, or not letting them play with em...we just need to teach the girls what to be, what to want..how they feel about themselves, what is beautiful...and what is right. There always gonna be forced into seeing, or playing, or knowing...certain items...but the way they handle or look at the situation...is what im aiming for.
