No, but I accompanied a friend of mine who was bi-polar, manic depressive, and schizophrenic to a clinic where he had himself admitted. It seems the doctor had changed his medicine and the new medicine made him sleep nearly all day. He felt like he was missing out on life so he stopped taking the medication. The results were not good. I went to his house with a friend and we convinced him to come down to the hospital with us and have himself admitted. My understanding of Pennsylvania State law is that if someone else has you admitted, then it is easier to be discharged as the burden is upon the physicians as to why they are holding you. If you admit yourself, than by law, they can hold you longer since you were not brought in against your will. It was very tough leaving my friend behind that night. That was a very long drive home. He got the care he needed and was back home in less than two weeks.

My brother did to get away from some people he was afraid of. After the weekend he wanted to get out, they wanted to keep him. It was around Thanksgiving one year and my brother told me he enjoyed the turkey. When my parents told the administrators that my brother didn't have any medical insurance, they released him.
