No. WE think that America rules the world, everbody should speak English, there should be a McDonalds and a 7-11 on every corner, everyone should drive a big gas guzzling SUV....and so on.?????????

We had to learn a tiny bit of Chinese in Hawaii in grade school but one foreign language was required in high school to graduate (it included Latin as an option for some reason).
-
Of course they do.
-
yes

They taught Spanish in our high schools. I live in Arizona so I now kinda have a idea why they did, The illegals don't want to learn our language so there trying to make us learn there's to accommodate.
-
Yes - the most commonly taught High School languages are Spanish and French . But i've also seen German and Chinese and a little Latin and American Sign Language as well offered.
-
Once someone tried to teach english but it was a bit of a failure...
-
Yes - at my high school they offered Spanish, German and French Some bigger of the city schools offfer Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Portugese, Latin, Russian and more :)
-
Yes, and in our school district they offer many languages beyond the standard German, French, and Spanish. My son is taking Japanese and was also offered Russian (college level courses and teachers, even!).
-
Mine did French, Spanish, and Latin. It used to do German back in the 80's, but it stopped.
-
Yes. My high school teaches German, Spanish, French, and Latin.
-
Oh yeah definately. Colleges and universities like four years worth of a foreign language in high school. My school offers Spanish, German, French, and newly added Chinese. As an american student, i would personally find it very odd if an american school didn't provide foreign language classes.

I find it a real pain that some schools dont teach Well jsut say (X) language i wanted to study abroad in Japan but found out that you needed 2 years of Japanese so i am dissapointed. unless you get a private tutor but still its tough to pay for a tutor and intuition to study abroad. right now im a sophmore in H.S so its to late to try and study Japanese even if i could. i understand its be useless to have like 50 different languages taught in school if anyone has a solution to me please answer
-
My 18 year old will graduate with seven years of Spanish behind her in June.
-
yes, but not extensively. Its pretty bad actually. (at least when i was in school) In middle school i took 1 semester of french. In high school, i was only required to take 2 years- i chose Spanish. I remember a decent amount of it, but i rarely get to use it, so it sort of slipped away. where are you from? what languages were you taught in school?
