Don't sweat it too bad - there are lots of options out there today for guys with thinning hair - nothing to be embarrassed about :)

First off can I assume you are male? If I can then listen: It almost completely depends on your genetics. Some men lose hair even in their 30s (and I believe the unlucky few I've seen have had it earlier). Some men won't lose it until after their 60s. And if your dad kept his hair, there is a good chance you won't lose it AT ALL! Best best bet is to talk to your dad if he is still here and ask him about how his hair pattern was.

It could depend on many factors. Most people assume potential hair loss comes from your dad but it may also come from your maternal side. I'm 43 and have a full head of hair but my brother who's older is balding. He's losing his hair because of stress that he takes medication for. If your 40 and still have a nice yard up there, chances are you'll probably keep most of it.

I am 46 and the pic in my profile is only a few months old. age has very little to do with hair loss.

Hahaha... hair doesn't abandon ship the instant you turn 40! It's all about genetics. I'm not laughing at you... I'm just amused by the idea of hair consciously deciding it doesn't want to be affiliated in any way with a 40-year-old scalp. I'm easily entertained like that. Anyway, you may or may not lose it. Did your dad? However, there's plenty of effective treatments fr hair loss nowadays. I had a friend lose his hair in his early TWENTIES, and now he's 30, starting Rogaine, and has developed quite a nice set of bristles. :)

If you haven't started losing your hair by now, I wouldn't worry about it. I have the same amount of hair as I did when I was in my 30's.
