I think the digital cameras are the way to go nowadays.
The versatility, size, weight, still shot capacity are all plusses in my book.
No more half used rolls of film or changing film between dives. If you don't like the shot you took you can even delete it underwater.
The light sensitivity of the chips in the digital camera even allow great shots with ambient light.
