  • Does your server has static public IP address or dynamic? Do you have domain registered? If you have static IP and a domain then you should be able to access it from internet with no problem. If you have dynamic IP then you should use something like www.dyndns.com.
  • Yes, I have a static IP. I have registered domain name, but already hosted at godaddy. Is it possible to change it, to be hosted at my computer. What should I do. RGDS & Thnx
  • (i'll assume that your local machine doesn't have a static ip that is directly accessible from the internet.) Easiest way is to do the following: 1) Register with dyndns.org (or pick another - dyndns is one option). 2) Follow the instructions on dyndns.org on setting up a subdomain (ie: yourhost.dyndns.org) and configuring it to point to your dynamic IP address. If you configured your subdomain correctly, you should now be able to access your server via your newly created dyndns subdomain (ie. http://yourhost.dyndns.org) from any computer. That's it - nothing else needed. No domain needed. Log into dyndns.org to update your IP address whenever it changes, or use one of their client programs to do the work automatically. Now, if you want to use your godaddy domain name, you need to point traffic to your dyndns subdomain via a CNAME record on godaddy. I don't have a godaddy account, but googling around uncovered a few interesting nuggets. http://www.smugmug.com/help/godaddy.mg shows a screen by screen guide on how to create a cname record under godaddy. http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/GoDaddy?t=anon is another source. Finally, if this is a "hey, i only want ONE person to access this machine remotely, not an all encompassing, view this machine on the internet kinda thing", then consider a remote control / sharing tool like tightvnc http://www.tightvnc.com/ . Good luck!
