Downfalls: You never know where you might be in 4 years, being separated from your family, being separated from your spouse (and being responsible for your entire family), having everything come down on your spouses head (ex: you mistakenly bounce a check), pay (depending on grade), military hospitals. Perks: Travel to places you never dreamed of and learning about other cultures, becoming self sufficent (military moves are something else), being a part of supporting your country and every base is a community as everyone has gone through the same changes. Remember your children will also have access to these things. I grew up a brat and ended up being a military spouse. It can be tough but I would repeat my experiences.
