God gave us free will. This gives us the right to Either obey him or not. According to Revelation, one third of all the angels in heaven that God created, all with free will, chose NOT to obey God but to follow Satan. These became Satan's demons. Without the scriptures, we wouls not be aware of this. They are there for our guidance.

The question is somewhat confusing i.e. "the right to choose", "but not the right to choose" First of all we have no "rights" before God. He is our Creator and Sovereign over all creation. What He has given us is the gift of a free will to make choices. These choices are of our on choosing. For instance, you can choose to believe in gravity or not believe in gravity, the choice is yours. But because you choose not to believe, does not mean that gravity does not exist. If there was no choice available then there would not have been the need for two specific trees in the Garden of Eden. Adam was given a choice in that he was told what would happen to him if he chose to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The choice? believe God and His stated consequences, or choose Eve and ignore God. Without his (Adams) exercise of free will, we would not have a choice of whether to obey God and love Him of our own choosing (since He first loved us) or spend eternity away from His Presence. One day Joshua was addressing the Israelites and confronting them about their idolatry and he gave them this choice when he said; "And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve:..." Joshua 24:15 Likewise, Moses gave the chosen people the Word of the Lord: "...I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live,..." Deuteronomy 30:19 But be careful about 'believing in God' only as a choice "...the demons also believe, and shudder." James 3:19 Our 'choice' now revolves around Jesus. We choose to believe He is Who He said He is, or we don't. And our belief is by faith. So you can 'choose' any god you want and if that choice is not believing in the God of the Bible, that's okay, it's your choice. But, if your right and I'm wrong, we are both in trouble, whereas if I am right and you are wrong, only one of us is in trouble. The choices we make always have consequences, so consider carefully. Jesus made a choice...(out of His love for each one of us) to die on that cross for our sins, and then He arose from death on the third day. No one else has ever done that or even claimed to have done that. Some day we will all be asked "what have you done with My Jesus?" Our choice now, determines our answer then. I think the idea is more that we have the *ability* to choose rather than the right. Christian theology grants that everyone has it in his power to do right or wrong according to Christian teachings, but it does not give the "right" to do so with believing in God or anything else. We can commit murder, adultery, robbery or anything within our physical power, but Christianity teaches that unless we repent of these sins then we can look forward to God's wrath (whatever form that might take). Equally it recognises that people are able to "reject" (or not believe in God, despite being aware of the Bible's teachings) it just tells us that we will be punished for doing so.

Understanding dogma will give you the answer. dogma is a set of beliefs that a religion holds to be true. Belief in this context is something that will not hold up under close examination.

God did give us both choices, and the question is flawed. Of course we can choose to not believe in Him, lots of people do it. They are called atheists or agnostics. God gave us free will because He created us to freely love Him. He created us to have a relationship with Him. If we were mindless zombies or robots, we wouldn't be able to do that. We wouldn't be capable of rejecting Him or doing evil, but only because we'd be mindless automatons. God thus created us with free will, but without a knowledge of good or evil. Thus, we had no INCLINATION to do evil. However, when we rebelled against God and rejected Him to serve Satan and our own selfish desires, there was created within our ancestors an inclination to do evil, i.e. other than God's will. This inclination to do evil is what we call sin, and it is why there are so many things in our world that God didn't want here, like suffering, natural disasters, diseases, death, murder, theft, rape, and genocide. God did not create this world with such things, but some came as a direct result of our rejecting God, while others were consequences given by Him as a just sentence for such evil deeds. Jesus came that by paying for our sin He might reconcile us to God, and that by making us new creatures who now have an inclination to do God's will, when we our resurrected our old sin nature will be destroyed with our flesh so that we will have only an inclination to do good once more, and no more to do evil. Because of this we will both be reconciled with God and no longer create evil to defile His perfect Creation.

Seems like you spent your early days on Answerbag learning not to piss off the Christians.

Cause you have to take that right yourself. And exercise it with pride

He actually did give us the option of choosing another God but he cautioned us that the consequence is hell.

GOD IS A SPIRIT ONLY AND A SPIRIT DONT SAY OR DO ANYTHING. A FACT OF LIFE
-
he did. i don't believe in God, nobody is forcing me to.

The christian god doesn't exist, but IF it did, it said believe in me or don't, your call. It's arrogant self righteous christians that don't think you have the right to choose.
-
God gives you the right not to believe in him. It is the religionists who demand that everyone believe the way they do.
-
All choices carry consequences. They may be positive consequences or negative consequences, but all choices carry consequences. You do have a choice to believe or not to believe. God will not force you to believe. But your choice does carry consequences, just like any other choice.

We do have a choice of whether or not to believe in a specific God...
