  • I am not Mormon, I dont know any Mormons to ask and I would not criticise anothers beliefs, no matter what that may be. But I do like the word KOLOB (no offense intended, my opinions only, so relax)
  • If they do, I might become theistic and convert! I would worship anyone who comes from the mystic planet KOLOB!!!
  • I used to be Mormon and when I was the church told me God lived in Heaven.
  • haha ive never heard that god lives on a planet called Kolob. im mormon and i never even heard of kolob. i guess i dont do enough studying either lol
  • Im Morman And No we dont belive that god lives on KOLOB !
  • Kolob is a star, the "throne of God" is a Celestialized earth where our current Heavenly Father came from, along with all the Celestial worhty people from that same earth. Our Heavenly Fathers home planet is just one of countless others that orbit the star Kolob. One day this planet will be celestialized and all the worthy people will go with it and take a place with all the other "thrones of God"... Mechanic
  • I believe Skousen came up with this idea. Kolob is the "governing" stars of all the others, so it seem by logic that this celestialed earth will take it's place with all the others. Realize that what will happen to us and this planet has happened countless times before...Mechanic
  • If You Could Hie to Kolob From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search "If You Could Hie to Kolob" is a Mormon hymn that was written by William Wines Phelps, a prominent early Mormon. The music is taken from a well-known folk tune known as Dives and Lazarus. It is hymn number 284 in the hymnal for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. According to Chapter 3 of the Book of Abraham in the Pearl of Great Price (part of the canon of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), Kolob is the great star that is nearest to the throne of God. The word hie means To go quickly; hasten. [edit] Lyrics If you could hie to Kolob in the twinkling of an eye, And then continue onward with that same speed to fly, Do you think that you could ever, through all eternity, Find out the generation where Gods began to be? Or see the grand beginning, where space did not extend? Or view the last creation, where Gods and matter end? Methinks the Spirit whispers, "No man has found 'pure space,' Nor seen the outside curtains, where nothing has a place." The works of God continue, and worlds and lives abound; Improvement and progression have one eternal round. There is no end to matter; there is no end to space; There is no end to spirit; there is no end to race. There is no end to virtue; there is no end to might; There is no end to wisdom; there is no end to light. There is no end to union; there is no end to youth; There is no end to priesthood; there is no end to truth. There is no end to glory; there is no end to love; There is no end to being; there is no death above. There is no end to glory; there is no end to love; There is no end to being; there is no death above.
  • Mormon doctrine teaches that the great STAR Kolob is near to God's celestial throne. God revealed this fact to Abraham during a Conversation in which He also revealed, thousands of years before Copernicus, that planets revolve around stars. From the "Pearl of Great Price", a canonized (officially holy) Mormon work, Book of Abraham, Chapter 4: "2 And I saw the stars, that they were very great, and that one of them was nearest unto the throne of God; and there were many great ones which were near unto it; "3 And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God: I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest. "4 And the Lord said unto me, by the Urim and Thummim, that Kolob was after the manner of the Lord, according to its times and seasons in the revolutions thereof; that one revolution was a day unto the Lord, after his manner of reckoning, it being one thousand years according to the time appointed unto that whereon thou standest. This is the reckoning of the Lord's time, according to the reckoning of Kolob. "5 And the Lord said unto me: The planet which is the lesser light, lesser than that which is to rule the day, even the night, is above or greater than that upon which thou standest in point of reckoning, for it moveth in order more slow; this is in order because it standeth above the earth upon which thou standest, therefore the reckoning of its time is not so many as to its number of days, and of months, and of years." • This is not really an answer to the question, but an interesting side note. "Battlestar Galactica" was created by Glen A. Larson, a Latter-day Saint who incorporated various elements of LDS theology into the series, albeit obliquely. In the polytheistic religion featured on the series, characters worship the "Lords of Kobol", which is an oblique reference to the LDS belief in "Kolob". However, in the universe of Battlestar Galactica, Kobol actually is a planet, not a star -- perhaps this is the source of the false charge that LDS believe God lives on the "planet" Kolob?
  • Just like everything else the mormon church has stopped teaching - I believe that they once taught that God lived on a star or a planet Kolob, especially after reading the words to that hymn they sing. There is canyon in Utah called Kolob - so you know they cherish the word. But - Just like they wouldn't let african americans in their church as late as 1970's. And they used to practice pologamy not so long ago. And they use to teach that they will become a god of their own planet. Maybe they still believe it. I don't think Mormons know what they believe! I'll just stick to the good old book - (basic instructions before leaving earth) B I B L E.
  • I am a convert to the Church, and it amazes me how many people on this site are LDS and have not heard of Kolob. Yes, this is something that is deep doctrine. The General Authorities today realize that we live in very hard, complicated times. Satan is at full throttle, so the General Authorities stick to the basics, so you don't hear them talk about deep doctrine as much as they used to. However, I am stunned how many members don't know this doctrine. Heavenly Father's throne is directly next to the star Kolob. Not only is it in scripture, and not only has it been spoken of by many General Authorities in the past, but it is also a HYMN!!! I have heard it sung at least 50 times in Elders Quorum.
  • Kolob is the star which is closest to the place where God resides.
  • You gotta go to SLC to find out! ;-)
  • If they do, that would be unfortunate. God created the entire universe, is absolutely immeasurable, and is everywhere present in created space, from Kolob to the farthest known quasar.
  • I sincerely believe that God was playing a joke here when he put that in the book. Say KOLOB backwards and you will know why.
  • "In the Latter Day Saint movement, Kolob is a star or planet mentioned in the Book of Abraham as being nearest to the throne or residence of God. The literal existence and the exact nature of Kolob is a controversial topic in Latter Day Saint movement theology, as is the Book of Abraham, which has not been canonized by the Community of Christ and several other denominations. However, the idea of Kolob has had an influence in the theology and culture of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church)." • were is the answwer that started with "Here is a facsimle from the book of abraham. it has details on this &... "
  • Both Mormonster and Ryacal are correct. THe creator of BSG is indeed a LDS and he did incorporate a LOT of Deep Doctrine into the series. Sort of tongue-in-cheek sneaky for those who "get it." And yes, There is Deep Doctrine that tells about Kolob and there are many hymns that sing about it. It is very true that most "born-into-the-church" are not aware of Kolob or the other deep doctrine because, I assume, they have no desire to delve any deeper than the beliefs they were taught. Many converts however find out about it because we are more curious, and eager to learn all we can of our new-found faith. Albeit for me it was more skepticism that made me try to learn absolutely everything I could. The farther into Deep Doctrine I got, the more I became disillusioned. I bear no ill-will to the church, just realized it wasn't for me. The Kolob thing is exactly what people already stated. The closest to God....and even deeper doctrine tells of how there isnt just one God...there are many with their own families"followers", and their own stars and planets far away and if LDS live true and all that, they too can become Gods themselves and have their own planet etc.... and for any of you LDS who start foaming at the mouth over my answer and saying it isnt so...look it up, mind you...most of the higher-ups will hemmm and hah and try not to give you an answer because for some reason it is frowned upon speaking of deep doctrine. One lasat thing, the poeple who said they were mormon and answered there is no Kolob.....makes me sad how much most of you 'members' dont know.
  • absolutely not, God lives next to the planet Kolob. Kolob is the hub of the universe and all power to the sun and other planets is governed by Kolob. After reading these pages I feel personally that some of the comments made on the pages are misleading as regards to the teachings of the LDS church. I believe whole-heartedly in the existence of my Father in Heaven and his Son Jesus Christ and for his great atonement for our sins, and no one will ever convince me differently. You want proof for the way I feel - if you look at the earth and this wonderful planet, the make up of human beings - the body - and all the different parts, and how it creates other human beings and now Heavenly Father is opening up the universe allowing men to land on the moon and sending probes further into the universe which was prophesied in the scriptures that the universe would be opened up to mankind. So how can you deny a great Creator? If it wasn't for Diety we would not have the previledge of being on earth. (Peter Brooks, Chorley, England)
  • Yes, and that Roy Roger's is also a prophet of the church.
  • Let's get this straight. God created the universe and everything in it, and then fixed up a planet near Kolob, as a place He'd like to live. Okayyyyyy......
  • Mormons make Scientologists look normal it seems.
