  • A lot is made of it. It means a lot to the kids, but even as we planned it, I felt like I was losing class time for an event that really wasn't important anymore. They used to have it b/c a lot of kids only went to the 6th grade or the 8th grade... but that is no longer the case.
  • Back in the day (my grand parents day late 1800's - early 1900's) a lot of kids, especially farm kids and poor kids had to work on the farm or go to work to help support the family. Not all districts have a graduation from one grade to teh next. When I taught in Illinois, a lot of the schools did. When I returned to Texas, most schools did not. A child doesn't understand the unimportance of the occassion, so her dad missing it made her feel as though he didn't care about her. That is another reason I didn't llike it. There were always some kids whose parents didn't show. I ended up consoling the heart broken and berating the parent.
  • idk....havent graduated yet but when i do it will be from 8th grade and i would never want t miss it. it seems soooo important to us kids. adults can sayy oohhhh yea they dont need t have a graduation from 8th grade but they probably ujst dont remember how good they felt recieving their diploma in front of an audience, noing that u did something that everyone is proud of you for just makes you feel sooo amazing and i would never wat to miss mine!!!!
  • I don't think so. At that point in your life it's a HUGE acomplishment to finish school. The heard work that's done needs to be celebrated.
