  • If you are quoting somebody it would be less offensive if you "blanked" the swearing part, they would still know what you meant but it would be less colourful language :)
  • It depends on what you mean by public, what you mean by quoting, and who is listening. Is it a play or performance where people are given to expect profanity? Is it a place where anyone can hear and you are not reading from a script? is so, paraphrase out of respect for others. I do not feel that it is considerate of others to subject me and my grandchildren to verbal filth when we have to share the same space. That goes for the audio pornography that is often played on the radio at full blast. What is done in private is people's own business. Good question.
