  • Yes and yes, when I was learning.
  • Yes I have used them & no I have never hurt myself with them. I was fortunate enough to have had proper training by several very highly skilled martial arts instructors since 1968. Training with safety in mind, and starting with low speed and low power while concentrating on PERFECT technique, then gradually increasing speed & power, will ensure there are no accidental self inflicted injuries. Just grabbing a set and "trying to figure them out" without the guidance of a skilled instructor, is a recipe for a hospital stay.
  • Yes and no (okay..I was using practice 'chucks), but a friend of mine got really "enthusiastic" with the real deal and knocked himself smooth out once. It was hilarious (even he thought so)
  • Yes I've tried them but always practice ones so never hurt myself. I like to try out some of the kid's karate equipment.. don't ask about the kamas!
  • even with the practice ones ive managed a few good crotch shots
  • I don't even really know what these things are. At my job we sell personal defense items so people will call asking if we sell these or brass knuckles... LOL.
  • Yes, I have 3 pairs. 2 of them were given away. The chain link nunchaks will get tangled if the chains are not good quality and properly attached making them jerky when used.
  • Yes, while I never caused myself severe damage, I've given myself one hell of a headache! And many other aches for that matter. LOL
  • Yeah, but not for real. I saw what my brother did to himself and decided I'd be smarter then him.
  • I haven't nor would I. I'm accident prone and would likely hurt myself with them.
  • No I'm scared of those things,I have seen a few people hit themselves with them and that is enough for me.They are really impressive when used correctly.
  • since 10 years old i 've practicing nunchaku.. i have hit myself over and over in areas in the head and in the groin but now afte 8 years i use them like my hands...
  • yes i am expert level in using nunchuckus
  • yh once i smak it round my side and it broke my spine now i am in a wheelchair so i blamed my wife and fed her to my dog im sorry but its her fault for buyin them for my birthday present. i love nunchuks i like to eat them on toast
  • I mgiht've used them a few times but I've never hurt myself with them. Have you?
  • yes... i started 5 years ago n i'm considered quite good at it. n yes i did get myself hurt but.. it was my fren who had hurt me.... few shots to the groin n the elbow
  • I've tried them, but never got the instant "feel" for them. The first time I picked up a pair of Sai they felt much more natural to me. I've got a pair of tonfa that I've had for years. But I am a sai kind of guy. And yes, I have injured myself mildly with nunchaku.
  • yeah i have, yes everytime i picked them up i seemed to hurt myself in some way.lol
  • I've used 'em but never hurt myself with 'em.
  • Yes I used to do karate and I'm from Japan. I don't really remember if I hurt myself or not. Mine was made of plastic so they wouldn't have hurt that bad.
  • No, but some of my friends did a home-made one when playing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1991-1993 somewhere. Probably, he didn't use it.
  • yes. We have foam pairs at my karate place. My friend and i were sparing and the foam covering flew off and hit me in the head, causing a momentary unconsiousness. And they're called safety nunchaku!
  • Yup and yup ^^; I haven't received any proper training or any training for that matter 0.0; from anyone, and automatically hada knack for it you could say :D I hurt myself a couple of times(I hit myself where the sun don't shine >.<;), but gradually got better, now I can spin figure eights and spin them blindfolded ^_^; I'm Chinese, what do you expect?? 0_o; It's in my blood!! xD PS: I have 3 sets, one 8 inch foam rubber one that I got when I first tried, a 1 foot plastic yellow set with 6 inch chain, and a hard wood set with stripes and really thick 6 inch chain o.o; I enjoy practicing once in a while, but I'm more of a laid back kind of guy :)
  • Yup! busted my nose with them one time, had a goofy looking bandage on my nose for two weeks afterwards.
  • yes, of course. i have a medium-heavy weight pair of nunchucks, and know how to handle them, good reflex and exercise. in the first, older times i injuried myself distracting during a back passage and hit my neck and shoulders. i was trying at medium-high speed so it pushed me on the ground for a few secs. honestly, i've to say that, dumbly, noone never hit me harder than my self. lol. dumbie dumbie. eheh... i love that pair of nunchucks, the grip is wonderful
  • I have never cared for weapons, but have trained briefly with some of them, nunchaku included. I have hit myself in the head, elbow, etc. It hurt, but no real "injry."
  • yes...i have most definently hurt myself with them. when i first started, i had many bruises, but after awhile i only hit myself in the head occasionaly
  • I'm using them once in a while... Haven't hurt myself, they're special training/sparring-nunchakus with a rubber foam shroud.
  • I have but never hurt myself. I'm too awesome! haha:)
  • Yes and yes. Smacked myself right square in the forehead once and knocked myself down to the floor. I tended to be a lot more careful after that.
  • Yes I have and yes they can be quite painful.....
  • will yes and yes,I had a bad instructors (my broder)even du he was god at it,he did't seem 2 care wethe i larn or not he just show'd me a move and tuld me to do it,i did not git any bad injury tank GOD,mybe becus am strong,my move was slow or i just ignord the pane
  • Unlike Takei-Shihan, I did not have the proper training and yes, I hurt myself pretty badly. I've got a permanent lump by the left corner of my hairline as a remembrance.
  • I'm not advanced enough to use them yet (3rd gup). Traditionally, they are not part of my art, Tang Soo Do (empty hands) but we do learn various weapons anyhow - sword, sai, bo, short sticks. I only know of two in my dojang who use nunchaku's. I'm not sure if I will be brave enough. I think I would definitely knock myself out.
  • yes, its inevitable. but thats how you learn not to. its like a built in punishment for being clumsy. you'll either give up or get bad-ass.
  • Yes, but never hurt myself. I learnt properly instead of just playing with them.
  • I've used `em. I've never hurt myself with them although a friend of mine did. Conked herself right on the dome.
  • Only fooled around with them. Luckily I didn't hurt myself.
