  • Yes, you'll need at least a twenty gallon tank that's well cycled to hold that many fish, depending on what kind of gourami you have. Kuhlii loaches don't tend to do too well in small tanks either, so that's something to keep in mind. In any case assuming your gourami is a dwarf or a betta you'd be dealing with about 20 inches of small to medium bodied fish, far too many for a ten gallon to handle.
  • Hello; If your tank is cycled --- you should be okay. With a small external filter you are at the very edge of capacity. With an undergravel filter you should be fine. Use only an air stone or a very small powerhead for the undergravel filter in a small tank. I connect a small external filter to my undergravel filter in some of my small tanks. My wife has a ten gallon tank with about 12- tetras, mixed in it. She turns off the filter to feed them and then forgets to turn it back on. I installed a seperate little air pump and stone for the undergravel filter and it takes care of the tank while the external filter is off. Enjoy! OfM
