Why did most people always want "the last word"? (It doesn't have to be in agreement.) What is it's significance?

The significance is, they're demonstrating (consciously or not)... ...what you say doesn't matter to them. My 14 year old daughter does it. She always has an answer before you finish asking the question. She refuses to let you finish a sentence before speaking herself and she ALWAYS has the last word. Irritating and frustrating as hell, but there you are.

I think adults who do this have an issue w/insecurity,they feel they must let you know they are in control by having the last word.
