There's things I wish I had done -- like finish college, and things I wish I hadn't done -- like burglarizing a church! But in sum, the interconnections between all these things make us who we've become today, and I'm quite fond of the result. So which experiences from the past should have been different? How do I know that even the tiniest thing could have changed without sacrificing something that I love today? No, I think I'll just not mess with the past. Being able to appreciate it exactly as it is... those memories and experiences... and trusting the intuition that these millions of bits and pieces are all exactly where they should be: in the past.

If I had the chance to erase some of the rockiness of my past -- some of my own making, some of others -- it would be highly tempting. To have a calmer mind, a more peaceful soul...who wouldn't want that? But everything I am is a culmination of everything that has come before. Would I be a better person if I could smooth out the past? Maybe. Maybe I'd lack some of the characterisitcs I've come to admire about myself. I heard it said once that a person is exactly where they need to be. It's a strong statement. No one promised an easy or perfect path. We each need the lessons that come to us because there's a gift in each one meant only for us. There are things I wish I'd accompished, things I could have done better, but I'd be a different person today and who's to say who that person would be?

There's no sense at all in digging up past regrets. That just keeps them "alive". You can do nothing about the past, leave it there.. and it's NEVER too late to start over. Never.
